NEW YORK—On April 12, singer Mary Courtney and Beth Higgins, who works in neurosurgery, enjoyed Shen Yun’s evening performance at the Lincoln Center. They were deeply moved by the performers’ dedication to their art.
“Thank you, all the performers and all the hardworking people you have behind the scenes. I’m in a show myself so I know how hard the work is,” Ms. Courtney said.
“The singer is fabulous. Her range is incredible, and she’s incredible. Beautiful range, beautiful timbre in her voice—the accompaniment is also fabulous,” she expressed.
“The orchestra also has not missed one note. I’m so fascinated by the traditional Chinese instruments. They are perfect. They’re trained and just the sound is incredible.”
Reflecting on the spiritual element of the show—a projection of the Creator and a pegasus on the backdrop—Ms. Courtney thought it was “very inspirational.”
“It brings me beautiful visions in my mind. It gives me peace because we need it—the message is very powerful, and I hope people hear it. This world needs that right now,” she added.
“It’s fantastic. The training, the athleticism, the tech interface, and the orchestra compositions are fantastic. It’s very unique, and it’s beautiful,” she said.
Ms. Courtney said she would go home to tell her friends and family to “please go see [Shen Yun.]”
“Please, you must experience it live. It’s very important to see it live. This is art, this is beauty, this is amazing. I hope it opens people’s hearts and minds.”
